Redirection takes users and bots to a different web page than the one they clicked on. This can be temporary (HTTP 307) when the page is unavailable for a limited time while it is being updated or optimized, leading the user/crawler to the next best resource. But when you design a website from scratch, you need to set up permanent redirects (HTTP 301).
Redirects are used to change the location of web resources. When a page or piece of content changes location, a redirect is usually used to redirect the user to the new location. See 301 and 302 redirects.
